Katsina Police Crack Down on Crime: 14 Arrested, ₦1.8 Million Recovered

Katsina State Police Command has apprehended fourteen suspects linked to various serious crimes, including armed robbery and theft. The arrests come after a targeted sting operation in Filin Polo Quarters, Katsina Metropolis.

Details of the Arrests

The Katsina State Police, led by Commissioner Aliyu Abubakar Musa, acted swiftly to address a series of criminal activities plaguing the area. According to police spokesman Abubakar Sadiq, a specialized team was deployed to investigate the escalating crime wave in Filin Polo Quarters, resulting in the apprehension of several suspects.

The arrests followed reports of a six-man gang involved in a string of violent crimes in the region. The suspects—identified as Ismail Hamza (23), Umar Faruq Aliyu (20), Yasir Jamilu (19), Abu Safiyanu (20), Murtala Abubakar (20), and Bello Yusuf (25)—were reportedly involved in armed robbery and theft.

Criminal Activities and Recoveries

On July 30, 2024, the gang allegedly used knives and cutlasses to break into the home of Muntari Usman, robbing him of ₦1.85 million. The same group is also linked to the theft of livestock and electronic devices from several other homes.

On August 11, 2024, the suspects, in collaboration with an accomplice now at large, reportedly stole a sheep and a ram valued at ₦220,000 from Badiya Mansur and Fatima Mohammed. They also stole two mobile phones, worth a combined ₦65,000, from another residence.

Ongoing Investigation

During their interrogation, the suspects confessed to their crimes and named Bello Yusuf, alias Yellow, as their financial manager. The police have recovered ₦1.85 million, a sheep, and a ram from the suspects. Authorities are continuing their investigation to capture the remaining fugitive involved in these criminal activities.
