According to Ireporter Online, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State has issued a public challenge to former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, urging him to formally join the party at the state level and submit to the leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, rather than maintaining what it described as unclear political associations with the APC at the national level.

The call was made by the Kwara State APC Chairman, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, while reacting to recent comments by the Director-General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, Prof. Abubabar Sulyman, who had alleged during a radio programme in Ilorin that Saraki was engaging with the APC at the federal level.

Fagbemi dismissed the development as politically insignificant, describing Saraki as self-serving and blaming his leadership style for the steady exit of loyalists from the Peoples Democratic Party. He noted that many of Saraki’s former supporters have since aligned with the APC and the African Democratic Congress, stressing that the ruling party has consistently chosen not to amplify the issue because it holds no electoral relevance.

The APC chairman insisted that Saraki should demonstrate political clarity by openly defecting to the APC in Kwara State and operating under Governor AbdulRazaq’s leadership, rather than sustaining what he termed ambiguous relationships. He further argued that Saraki no longer poses a political challenge in the state, citing the APC’s successive electoral victories over the PDP.

Fagbemi also accused the former Senate President of lacking political loyalty, alleging that his recent moves were driven by a bid for relevance following the loss of state power and access to government resources. Despite the criticism, he maintained that the APC harboured no objections to Saraki’s political choices, emphasizing that if the former lawmaker truly believed in his strategy, he should officially join the party in Kwara State and participate transparently within its structure.
