The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency has called on Ogun State authorities to investigate allegations concerning singer Simi. Speaking on Channels TV’s Morning Brief, Executive Secretary Lola Vivour-Adeniyi stressed the need for prompt action on such reports and urged victims to come forward to support the process.

Vivour-Adeniyi emphasized the challenge of pursuing legal action without survivor testimony, noting, “The truth of the matter is that it’s going to be very difficult to prosecute the lady without a survivor being present.” She added that anyone affected by sexual abuse, assault, aggression, or defamation should step forward so that statements can be documented and investigations properly initiated.

In a related development, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) announced it will investigate credible claims of child abuse or misconduct in daycare centres nationwide. This follows renewed online discussion about past social media posts by Simi regarding her time at her mother’s daycare in 2012 and 2013. The debate resurfaced after the singer spoke out against rape culture online, prompting users to revisit her previous posts.

Simi clarified that her posts recounted normal interactions with children when she was 23 years old and not yet famous, reflecting playful and affectionate moments rather than inappropriate behavior. Despite her explanation, some online users called for authorities to formally review daycare practices.

Responding to public concerns, NAPTIP issued a statement reaffirming its commitment to investigate credible reports of child abuse in childcare settings. The agency encouraged anyone with first-hand information or evidence to contact them confidentially via direct message on X or through email at info@naptip.gov.ng.
