Lagos Assembly Advances Bill to Establish Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy
Lagos State House of Assembly has taken a significant step towards establishing the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy, with the bill recently passing its second reading, according to PUNCH.
This proposed legislation aims to create a legal framework for the academy, named after the esteemed former Lagos State Governor Lateef Jakande. The academy is intended to enhance the state’s educational and leadership development initiatives.
Speaker Mudashiru Obasa has referred the bill to the House Committee on Education for further review. Deputy Majority Leader Adedamola Kasunmu expressed confidence that the academy would play a crucial role in Lagos’ educational progress. He emphasized its potential to develop a new generation of leaders with a comprehensive understanding of legislative and executive processes.
Lawmaker Femi Saheed supported the bill, highlighting that the academy would serve as a specialized institution promoting cultural, social, and academic growth among Lagos youths. Saheed noted that it would also improve the state’s feedback mechanism by offering a structured platform for leadership training.
Gbolahan Yishawu, another Assembly member, praised the bill as a testament to the Lagos State Government’s dedication to nurturing leaders with advanced problem-solving skills. Yishawu stressed the importance of inclusivity in the academy’s admission process, warning against elitist practices and marginalization in candidate selection.
This initiative underscores Lagos State’s commitment to fostering leadership and educational excellence, aiming to create a more informed and capable future generation.
