Lagos Continues Cleanup, Sets Up Taskforce To Arrest Open Defecation Offenders

The Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources intensified its efforts to eradicate open defecation on Thursday by continuing the cleanup of the Ojodu-Berger highway median. This is part of the state’s ongoing initiative to improve public hygiene and maintain the newly rehabilitated roads.

Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, announced on X.com that the state government has established a taskforce dedicated to apprehending individuals who engage in roadside defecation. He also issued a stern warning to the public about the legal consequences of such actions.

This crackdown follows earlier collaborative efforts between the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) and the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency. The joint operation, which began on August 13, focused on cleaning up the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, particularly the median from OPIC Plaza to Odetola Bridge.

The Lagos State Government’s latest actions underscore its commitment to ending open defecation and ensuring a cleaner, healthier environment for all residents.
