Lagos Deputy Governor Calls On Nigerians To Turn Ramadan Into Nation-Building Season

According to Ireporter Online, Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, has called on Nigerians to use the Ramadan period to foster empathy, strengthen community bonds, and contribute to nation-building. He made the remarks yesterday during the Special Firdaus Prayer for the late Oba Mufutau Hamzat and Ramadan Lecture, organized by the United Muslims Council of Nigeria, Mushin Division, at Yahya Abatan, Ogba, Lagos.

Dr. Hamzat emphasized that Ramadan is not only a time for fasting and personal devotion but also an opportunity to enhance social welfare and community relationships. “The essence of Ramadan is to link us more closely to God and to treat humanity with empathy. By caring for our neighbors and supporting our communities, we contribute to a stronger, more prosperous nation,” he said.

He further highlighted the teachings of Prophet Muhammad, noting that they encourage Muslims to live in peace and unity with their neighbors. According to Dr. Hamzat, following these principles helps build progressive communities and a well-developed nation.

Reflecting on religious observances, Dr. Hamzat pointed out that both Muslims during Ramadan and Christians during Lent are called to live according to the values of their faith. “Our religions teach us to be good neighbors, care for our communities, and protect our environment. Peace, love, empathy, godliness, and good deeds should extend to everyone, regardless of religion, ethnicity, or tribe,” he added.
