Lagos Pledges Swift Payment Of Pension Benefits, Reassures Retirees Of Better Days Ahead

The Lagos State Government has reiterated its unwavering commitment to the welfare of its retiring public servants, assuring them of prompt payment of entitlements and a seamless transition into retirement.

According to reports from a reliable government source, the assurance was made during the 29th Retirement Benefit Documentation Seminar organised by the Lagos State Pension Commission (LASPEC). The Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro—represented by the Director of Service, Mrs. Bukola Oyedola—commended the retirees for their dedication, discipline, and invaluable service to the development of the state.

Agoro described the exercise as a reflection of the administration’s appreciation for its workforce, noting that the Lagos State Government, through LASPEC, has established a robust system that ensures timely processing and remittance of retirement benefits for all eligible officers. He further applauded Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration for prioritising the welfare of workers and maintaining consistent support for retirees beyond their years of active service.

The Head of Service also praised the collaboration between LASPEC and the Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs), noting that the partnership has enhanced transparency, efficiency, and accountability in pension administration across the state. He disclosed that retirees could now easily access pension-related services at LASPEC’s new office located in the Lagos State Revenue House, Alausa, Ikeja.

The Director-General of LASPEC, Mr. Babalola Obilana, explained that the seminar was specifically designed for officers due to retire between January and June 2026. He described retirement as a defining chapter that signifies both an end and a new beginning—a time for retirees to reap the rewards of their years of hard work and redirect their energy toward personal, family, and community fulfillment.

Obilana noted that the participants would be exposed to various topics essential for effective retirement planning, such as documentation procedures, financial management, healthcare, legal awareness, and emotional readiness. He emphasised that proactive preparation remains key to enjoying a peaceful and rewarding post-service life.

“Retirement should not be feared but embraced as a period of new opportunities, reflection, and self-fulfillment,” Obilana remarked, assuring retirees that their dedication and service to Lagos State had not gone unnoticed. He described retirement as “an elevation into a new phase where one can continue to make meaningful contributions to society in diverse ways.”
