BBNaija star Phyna has thrown her weight behind fellow former housemate Tochi’s advice to ex-housemates struggling financially, urging reality TV stars to look beyond their celebrity status and explore other legitimate sources of income.
According to Ireporter Online, Phyna reacted to Tochi’s remarks by questioning the growing perception that former BBNaija housemates should rely primarily on their celebrity status and wait for lucrative brand endorsements.
She also criticised the tendency to measure the success of reality stars by the number and monetary value of brand deals they secure, arguing that figures circulated publicly may not always represent the actual amount received by the celebrity.
Phyna noted that management fees and other associated expenses can significantly reduce the earnings from endorsement contracts. According to her, a deal publicly announced as worth millions of naira could leave the celebrity with considerably less after deductions.
She suggested that some reality stars may end up relying on the prestige associated with major brand deals while having little financial benefit to show for them.
Reacting to the situation, Phyna sarcastically urged former housemates to continue relying on brand endorsements, while questioning the practice of inflating the value of deals announced to the public.
She further criticised what she described as a growing culture of classism within the reality TV space, insisting that appearing on BBNaija should not discourage anyone from working hard or pursuing additional income streams.
Her comments came amid an ongoing conversation among former reality stars and social media users about financial sustainability after leaving the BBNaija platform, with growing emphasis on building businesses, careers and other independent sources of income rather than depending solely on celebrity endorsements.
