Malami, Son Remanded In Kuje Prison As Court Defers Case

Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court issued the order after listening to arguments for and against the bail requests. Malami, his son, and a third defendant, Hajia Bashir Asabe of Ramadiya Property Limited, are standing trial in connection with an alleged ₦9 billion money laundering case instituted by the Federal Government.

The trial judge explained that due to other official commitments during the court vacation, the ruling on the bail applications would be delivered on the adjourned date. Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Joseph Daudu, urged the court to grant bail to the defendants, while Emmanuel Ekele Iheanacho, SAN, appearing for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, opposed the applications.

All three defendants have pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against them.

Meanwhile, reports from the Federal High Court in Abuja indicate that operatives of the EFCC and officials of the Nigeria Correctional Service were involved in a confrontation over security arrangements during the proceedings. The disagreement reportedly arose over which agency should assume responsibility for security during the trial, leading to heightened tension as both sides attempted to assert control over access to the courtroom and surrounding areas.
