Mass Exodus R*cks Benue As PDP, ADC, LP Chieftains Dump Parties For APC
A wave of defections has struck Benue State as key members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), and Labour Party (LP) in Vandeikya Local Government Area officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday, November 1, 2025.
According to reports from Ireporter Online, the defection ceremony attracted a massive turnout of supporters, signaling what many described as the total collapse of the opposition in the local government area, which is the home base of Governor Hyacinth Alia.
Speaking at the event, the Benue State APC Chairman, Benjamin Omale, announced that the development marked the end of opposition presence in Vandeikya. “With what we have seen today, there is no longer any opposition in this area,” Omale declared, noting that the people had demonstrated where their trust and confidence truly lie.
Omale commended the defectors for aligning with the APC, emphasizing that their decision reflected the growing popularity of Governor Alia’s administration. Leading the defectors were former PDP governorship aspirant Dominic Akaaha and former Commissioner for Information, Cletus Akwaya, alongside several members of the ADC and LP who pledged allegiance to the ruling party.
He further stated that the calibre of politicians switching camps underscored the party’s strengthening influence in the state. “The kind of personalities we received today shows clearly that there is no serious opposition left in Vandeikya,” Omale said.
According to him, the mass defection was driven by the impressive performance of Governor Alia’s government and the Renewed Hope agenda championed by President Bola Tinubu, which, he claimed, had restored public confidence in the APC.
“This massive defection is a result of Governor Hyacinth Alia’s performance across all sectors,” Omale added. “It is clear that this local government is now fully secured for Governor Alia.”
Describing the event as historic, Omale said the turnout of prominent sons and daughters of Kunav land demonstrated widespread approval of the current leadership. He revealed that more defections from other local government areas were expected in the coming weeks.
“The level of enthusiasm we have seen today shows that the people of Benue are pleased with the leadership of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Hyacinth Alia,” Omale noted. “We urge everyone to continue supporting them in future elections to ensure sustained development and improved governance.”
