Massive Asset Sale: FG Targets Ex-CBN Governor’s 753 Homes in Corruption Crackdown

The Federal Government has disclosed plans to sell a 753-unit housing estate in Abuja that was forfeited by former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, as part of assets recovered by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
According to reports, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development officially took possession of the estate on Tuesday following its formal handover by the EFCC at the Ministry’s headquarters in Mabushi, Abuja.
In a statement signed by Salisu Haiba, the Director of Press and Public Relations, the Ministry confirmed:
“The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has taken delivery of the 753 housing units in Abuja, recovered from former CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, by the EFCC.”
Minister Ahmed Dangiwa commended the EFCC for its relentless efforts in combating corruption and recovering looted assets.
“This handover represents a major milestone in our shared commitment to ensuring that recovered properties are repurposed for the direct benefit of Nigerians,” Dangiwa said.
He added that both the Ministry and the EFCC would soon embark on a joint inspection of the estate to assess its present state.
Dangiwa emphasized that a comprehensive structural and integrity assessment would be carried out on the buildings and infrastructure to verify their habitability and safety.
“We plan to undertake a detailed evaluation of all structures to guarantee they are fit for use,” he noted.
He further explained that the housing units would be sold to the public as well as allocated for certain official government needs. He assured Nigerians that the sales process would be transparent, competitive, and accessible.
“The public sale will follow an open and credible process, including nationwide advertisements and access via the Renewed Hope Portal, where interested buyers can submit their Expressions of Interest,” he stated.
EFCC Chairman Olanipekun Olukoyede, during the handover, emphasized the event’s significance, both symbolically and practically, as evidence of the administration’s zero-tolerance approach to corruption.
