Mojisola Adeyeye, products valued at ₦5 billion were destroyed during a sting operation that took place on December 16th and 17th, 2024.

NAFDAC uncovered a large-scale operation involved in producing and distributing substandard products, including beverages, carbonated drinks, wines, spirits, vegetable oils, and revalidated food items like noodles, powdered milk, and yogurt. The agency’s investigation revealed that the market had become a hotspot for fake goods, putting public health at risk.

Dr. Martins Iluyomade, NAFDAC’s Director for the South-East Zone, expressed frustration over the ongoing illegal activities despite a 2023 agreement signed by market leaders to expose counterfeiters. In response, NAFDAC reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy towards such practices and reiterated its commitment to protecting Nigerians from harmful products.

Professor Adeyeye vowed to continue the agency’s relentless efforts to eliminate counterfeit goods from the market and ensure public safety.
