In 2007, Saliu Mustapha come join hands with Buhari when he run under the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) platform to become president.

In 2011 Saliu Mustapha come join as a foundation NEC member for Buhari’s newly formed Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) , he first do  Ex-Officio, and later he come become the party  National Deputy Chairman under the leadership of Prince Tony Momoh.

After then him and Buhari come say make dem join hands with others to form the All Progressive Congress,APC. In fact to date dem dey hail Saliu as one of the signatories wey sign the merger agreement on behalf of CPC to create APC.
