Minister Abubakar Momoh Commends NDDC for Restoring 4.5km of Life-Changing Road Along Abuja–Benin Expressway(Video)

In a landmark show of responsive governance, the Honourable Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh, FNSE, has applauded the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for its swift remedial intervention along the failed portions of the Abuja–Benin Expressway, reconnecting critical areas across Edo North and Edo Central.

The total 4.5-kilometer stretch, executed under the Minister’s directive, marks a significant relief for commuters and local businesses, long plagued by deteriorating road conditions and incessant gridlock.

“Infrastructure is the heartbeat of development. What we have done here is not just fix a road — we’ve restored dignity, safety, and economic movement for our people,” said Engr. Momoh during a site inspection that covered key points in Etsako West and Esan Central.

According to reports, 1 kilometer between Aviele and Egono has been stabilized in Etsako West, while the Agbede–Benin axis saw 1.5 kilometers of fresh rehabilitation. In Esan Central, 300 meters around Ewu Junction were restored, along with 1.7 kilometers around the Irrua Old Post Office.

The intervention comes at a time when the full-scale reconstruction of the Abuja–Benin Expressway, awarded to BUA Group under a tax credit scheme, is yet to reach the severely impacted zones. Minister Momoh emphasized that while the long-term reconstruction is underway, immediate solutions must be deployed to ease suffering.

“This NDDC-led intervention is a lifeline pending when BUA mobilizes fully. We cannot allow our people to suffer when we can act. That’s what President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda is about — governance that listens and responds,” Momoh added.

Locals have expressed overwhelming gratitude, with traders, transporters, and families testifying to improved travel times, safer commutes, and revived economic activity.

“This is more than a road — this is our livelihood,” said a resident in Agbede, echoing the sentiments of many others who now enjoy safer and smoother journeys.

With continued federal support and ministerial oversight, the Regional Development Ministry reaffirms its commitment to bridging infrastructural gaps, especially in historically neglected corridors.

“The journey isn’t over,” Momoh concluded, “but we’re on the right path — and the road ahead is filled with promise.”
