Minister Abubakar Momoh Leads North-West Development Charge At NWDC Summit

The Honourable Minister of Regional Development, Abubakar Momoh, has called for coordinated, people-driven development across the North-West, as the North West Development Commission (NWDC) convened its inaugural stakeholders’ development summit in Kaduna.

The summit, held on Saturday at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Conference Centre, brought together federal lawmakers, development partners, state governments, traditional leaders, civil society organisations, and private sector stakeholders to chart a unified development pathway for the region.

The high-level meeting was themed “Advancing a Coordinated Regional Development Agenda for North-West Nigeria” and was organised in collaboration with the Joint Senate and House of Representatives Committees on the NWDC.

Speaking at the event, Minister Momoh, whose ministry supervises the commission, emphasised that Regional Development Commissions are critical instruments for inclusive growth and national cohesion. He stressed that development interventions must be practical, community-focused, and capable of delivering tangible results across all seven states of the North-West.

According to the Minister, the establishment of the Regional Development Commissions by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu reflects the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at addressing long-standing regional challenges through structured collaboration and targeted investments.

He urged stakeholders to work collectively to tackle insecurity, poverty, unemployment, and infrastructure deficits, noting that sustainable development can only be achieved through synergy between federal, state, and local actors.

The summit was attended by key national figures, including Deputy Senate President Senator Barau I. Jibrin, while former Vice President Namadi Sambo served as chairman of the occasion. Kaduna State was represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, on behalf of Governor Uba Sani, who underscored the need for governance that prioritises action and measurable outcomes over reports and diagnoses.

Participants engaged in robust deliberations on regional security, agricultural development, youth empowerment, and economic revitalisation, with a shared focus on aligning policies and resources for maximum impact.

Minister Momoh’s participation reinforced the Ministry of Regional Development’s commitment to transparent, results-oriented interventions and effective coordination among development stakeholders.

The summit marks a significant step toward accelerating sustainable development in the North-West, positioning the region for renewed growth through strategic partnerships and focused federal leadership.
