Nasarawa Governor Acknowledges Border Security Risks, Commends Army’s Support

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has acknowledged that the state remains vulnerable to security challenges in its border communities due to its proximity to other North Central states battling more severe threats, according to IReporter Online.

Speaking at the Government House in Lafia on Friday during a courtesy visit by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. General Olufemi Oluyede, and top Army Headquarters officers, Governor Sule praised the Nigerian Army for relocating the Special Forces Training School from Yobe State to Nasarawa.

He pledged his administration’s full cooperation with security agencies to maintain peace.

The governor highlighted the synergy between the Special Forces, Operation Whirlstroke, 177 Battalion Keffi, and the Nigerian Police as a key factor in sustaining stability across the state.

He noted that despite challenges from neighbouring areas such as Southern Kaduna, Plateau, Taraba, Benue, and Kogi, Nasarawa has remained one of the most peaceful states in the region.

Governor Sule also lamented that criminals on their way to Abuja sometimes use Nasarawa’s forests as hideouts, stressing the need for continued vigilance.

“We must continue to thank the security forces for their wonderful job in supporting our peace efforts,” he said, according to IReporter Online.

Earlier, the COAS emphasized that the Nigerian Army is made up of personnel from all 36 states and belongs to the people it serves.

He urged Nigerians to provide more support to security agencies, noting that their numbers are limited compared to the magnitude of the country’s security challenges.

Lt. General Oluyede was in Nasarawa to lay the foundation for the relocated Nigerian Army Special Forces Training School in Doma, a move he believes will strengthen military efficiency and enhance security in the region, according to IReporter Online.
