NDLEA Breaks Open Lagos Opioid Fortress, Seizes ₦6.7bn Drugs In Daring Raid

According to Ireporter Online, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has dismantled a major opioid syndicate in Lagos after uncovering a concealed warehouse used for the storage and distribution of illicit substances. The discovery followed intelligence alerts about unusual activities within a residential estate on Sunny Billa East Street, Bucknor, Isheri-Isolo.

Acting on the information, operatives moved swiftly on November 19, 2025, intercepting a truck allegedly offloading large quantities of opioids ahead of expected holiday-season circulation. The NDLEA’s Special Operations Unit thereafter tracked two suspects—Egbo Innocent Udalor and Chukwe Emmanuel—who were arrested at Apple Junction while transporting 300 cartons of opioids believed to be destined for local distribution channels.

According to security accounts referenced in the NDLEA’s statement, the suspects were apprehended as they attempted to move the substances through informal community routes before end-of-year festivities. A coordinated follow-up operation on November 20, 2025, led agents to the cartel’s warehouse inside a gated residential compound, where the alleged ringleader, Onyekachi Pius Nwanagu, and members of his network were arrested. Four additional suspects—Nwoye Sunday Ali, Nnacho Ogochukwu, Oraghalia Chukwuebuka Philip, and two others—were taken into custody, bringing the total number of arrests to six.

The NDLEA confirmed that the illicit drugs were evacuated from the compound using eleven truckloads and transferred to the agency’s forensic exhibit facility in Lagos. Officials documented a haul of 7,272,000 tablets of tramadol 225mg valued at approximately ₦3.96 billion, along with 526,200 bottles of codeine syrup—amounting to 52.6 million millilitres—estimated at ₦2.76 billion. The combined street value of the seizures stands at roughly ₦6.72 billion.

Agency leadership emphasized that the warehouse, packed to capacity with the illegal substances, was situated in a quiet residential area of Isheri, underscoring the growing trend of cartels embedding operations within community spaces. NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), commended the officers involved, describing the operation as a “decisive blow” against drug syndicates and a reaffirmation of the agency’s mandate under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He warned that criminal networks across the country should expect relentless pressure, stating that those who believe they are beyond the reach of law enforcement “will eventually face justice.”

In a separate update, the agency affirmed that ongoing investigations connected to earlier terrorism-related cases have progressed, with forensic findings, audio evidence, digital records, and witness analyses now admitted in court. Materials extracted from seized devices were largely in Hausa language and were translated for legal proceedings overseen at the terrorism trial sitting in Abuja. The case was adjourned to February 19, 2026, for further submission of written addresses and continuation of forensic evaluation.
