Ekiti State Partners NiMet to Boost Agriculture with Timely Weather Intelligence
The Ekiti State Government has entered into a landmark partnership with the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) to enhance agricultural productivity through the delivery of precise and timely weather information to farmers.
According to Ireporter Online, the collaboration was formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, with Secretary to the State Government, Professor Habibat Adubiaro, representing Ekiti State, and NiMet’s Legal Services Director and Board Secretary, Mr. Shola Gabriel, signing on behalf of the agency.
At the signing ceremony, Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Ebenezer Boluwade, reaffirmed the state’s readiness to work closely with NiMet to equip farmers with critical meteorological data.
Represented by Permanent Secretary Babatope Ojo, Boluwade noted that such information would enable informed decisions, improve productivity, and secure the state’s food supply chain.
He further praised Governor Biodun Oyebanji for his proactive measures in supporting the agricultural sector.
According to Ireporter Online, NiMet’s Legal Director, Shola Gabriel, assured that the agency would provide timely and accurate forecasts to guide farmers on optimal planting and harvesting periods, thus boosting yields and minimizing losses.
Haruna Zakari, General Manager of Agro-Meteorology at NiMet, emphasized the far-reaching benefits of the initiative, noting that it would improve farmers’ livelihoods, facilitate agricultural research, diversify crop varieties, and promote sustainable farming practices in Ekiti State.
According to Ireporter Online, the partnership is being hailed as a strategic move that aligns with the government’s broader vision of economic growth, job creation, and long-term food security.
