Newcastle Remain Unbeaten After Hard-Fought Draw With Bournemouth

Newcastle United staged a dramatic comeback at St James’ Park on Saturday, September 5, fighting back from two goals down to secure a 2-2 draw against Bournemouth and maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

According to Ireporter Online, Bournemouth took control of the contest in the 35th minute when Marcus Tavernier reacted quickest after Alex Scott’s effort took a significant deflection, allowing him to poke the ball beyond Newcastle goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek.

The visitors extended their advantage shortly afterwards when a long-range effort from Justin Kluivert struck the post and rebounded off Hornicek before Alex Scott’s subsequent cross deflected off Newcastle defender Malick Thiaw and looped over the goalkeeper.

Newcastle responded quickly, with Harvey Barnes reducing the deficit before half-time. The winger raced down the left flank, cut inside and produced an impressive curling finish beyond Bournemouth goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic.

The hosts struggled to create clear chances after the interval, prompting manager Matthias Jaissle to make several substitutions in search of an equaliser. New signing Matias Fernandez-Pardo was introduced in the 63rd minute and received a warm welcome from the home supporters.

Newcastle eventually found their breakthrough in the 88th minute when Bournemouth failed to properly clear the danger inside their penalty area. Jacob Ramsey kept his composure to finish and rescue a point for the home side.

The result extended Newcastle’s unbeaten run in all competitions since Jaissle succeeded long-serving manager Eddie Howe last month. Howe, who previously managed Bournemouth, had been replaced as part of the club’s major changes during the summer.

Newcastle opened their Premier League campaign with a 2-2 draw against Liverpool before recording a 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.

The club also underwent significant changes in the transfer market, with Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon among the notable departures, while eight new players were brought in during what Newcastle described as a transformational summer window.

Bournemouth are similarly adjusting to a new era after Marco Rose took over as manager following Andoni Iraola’s departure for Liverpool.

Despite trailing by two goals, Newcastle’s late comeback ensured they maintained their unbeaten record and secured another point in what has been a season of major transition at St James’ Park.
