Nigeria Is Tough to Lead If You Want to Do It Right – Peter Obi Declares, Says He’s Not Desperate for Presidency!

The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has acknowledged that governing Nigeria is a daunting task, particularly for those determined to do the right thing.

Speaking at a special thanksgiving service held at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Umuahia, commemorating the second anniversary of Governor Alex Otti’s administration, Obi pointed to entrenched systemic issues and resistance to reform as major obstacles to good governance in the country.

“Governing Nigeria is challenging—especially if you’re committed to doing it the right way,” he noted.

Obi emphasized that while he’s not desperate to become Nigeria’s president, his real passion lies in seeing the country function effectively for all its citizens.

“I’m not desperate to be President. What I truly desire is for Nigeria to work. We want leaders like Governor Otti who are making a real difference,” he said.

He urged Nigerians to pray for Governor Otti, his team, and the country as a whole, adding that those in leadership positions are trustees of public resources, and must use them responsibly.

“Let’s continue to pray for the Governor and his team. Pray for Nigeria too—that God may touch the hearts of our leaders to use public wealth for the public good. It’s not their money; they’re only custodians,” Obi stressed.

Commending Governor Otti’s performance, Obi praised the visible progress and transformation witnessed in just two years.

“We’re celebrating two years of impactful leadership. People often say they need eight or ten years to bring change, but I’ve always believed that even a single day can make a difference. In Abia, the transformation is visible—you don’t need a radio or a spokesperson to tell you,” Obi remarked.

In his response, Governor Otti attributed his administration’s success to divine intervention, cooperation from the legislature and judiciary, and the collective effort of his team.

Quoting 1 Corinthians 3:6-7, he said:

“I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God gave the increase. We’ve worked diligently, but without God, our efforts would amount to nothing. All thanks belong to Him.”

Otti also expressed deep appreciation to Peter Obi for his consistent support and inspirational leadership.
