Nigerian Company TGI Finalizes Partnership With Indian Group RCPL
According to industry sources, Tropical General Investments (TGI) Group, one of Nigeria’s leading business conglomerates, has entered into a Joint Venture agreement with Reliance Consumer Products Limited (RCPL), the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) division of India’s Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL). The partnership, which awaits customary regulatory and legal approvals, aims to provide global-quality FMCG products at affordable prices to consumers in Nigeria and the broader West African region.
The Joint Venture will focus on democratizing access to world-class products through local manufacturing, distribution infrastructure, and human capital development. It will combine RCPL’s extensive research and development capabilities and diverse product portfolio across South Asia, the Middle East, and Africa with TGI’s manufacturing expertise and established market presence in Nigeria and West Africa.
RCPL Director Thirumalai Krishnakumar described the venture as a significant step in RCPL’s ambition to become a global FMCG leader. “Our mission is to establish RCPL as a leading FMCG company from India and offer global-quality products at affordable prices. Partnering with TGI will be instrumental in expanding our market presence globally as we enter the crucial Nigerian market,” he said.
Farouk Gumel, Vice Chairman of TGI Group, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, highlighting its potential to deliver innovative, affordable products to millions of consumers across West Africa. “By combining RCPL’s product development expertise with TGI’s local market knowledge, this partnership will create jobs and reinforce Nigeria’s position as a leading industrial and manufacturing hub in Africa,” Gumel said.
Established in 2022, RCPL has rapidly emerged as one of India’s fastest-growing FMCG firms, with a portfolio covering beverages, home care, packaged staples, and personal care products. Reliance Industries reported a consolidated revenue of $125.3 billion for the 2024–25 financial year and ranks 88th in Fortune’s Global 500 list and 45th in the Forbes Global 2000 rankings for 2025.
