Nigerian Navy Shakes Up Top Command: 65 Rear Admirals Redeployed In Major Overhaul

According to Ireporter Online, the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, has approved a sweeping redeployment of 65 Rear Admirals across various commands and institutions of the Nigerian Navy, Defence Headquarters, and Tri-Service establishments. The move is part of a strategic effort to strengthen operational efficiency, coordination, and maritime security.

In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, the Director of Naval Information, Commodore Ayiwuyor Adams-Aliu, explained that the large-scale postings reflect the Navy’s ongoing reorganization aimed at enhancing performance and fostering synergy among its commands.

Adams-Aliu noted that the redeployment underscores the Chief of Naval Staff’s vision to reposition the Service for greater effectiveness in tackling maritime challenges and national security operations.

Among the newly assigned officers, Rear Admiral Suleiman Abdullahi, who previously served at the Defence Headquarters, has been appointed Chief of Logistics at the Naval Headquarters. Rear Admiral Kasim Bushi has been transferred from the Headquarters of the Naval Training Command to the International Maritime Institute of Nigeria, where he will serve as Executive Director.

Other key appointments include Rear Admiral Suleiman Dahun as Director of Defence Cooperation at the Defence Headquarters; Rear Admiral Abdullahi Ahmed as Commandant of the National Defence College; Rear Admiral Musa Katagum as Chief of Operations, Naval Headquarters; Rear Admiral Fredrick Damtong as Chief of Naval Engineering, Naval Headquarters; and Rear Admiral Abdul-Rasheed Haruna as Chief of Training, Naval Headquarters.

New Flag Officers Commanding (FOCs) have also been named to head major naval formations. Rear Admiral Abiodun Alade assumes command of the Logistics Command, Rear Admiral Abubakar Mustapha takes charge of the Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Chidozie Okehie now leads the Eastern Naval Command, while Rear Admiral Suleiman Ibrahim will oversee the Central Naval Command.

In addition, Rear Admiral Mohammed Muye has been appointed Commandant of the Naval War College Nigeria, and Rear Admiral Abdul-Hamid Baba-Inna is now serving as the Navy Secretary.

Vice Admiral Abbas congratulated the newly appointed officers, urging them to demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and dedication in the discharge of their duties, while upholding the Navy’s commitment to national security and maritime excellence.
