NLC Rejects 35% Salary Increment, Insists On N615,000 Living Wage

Despite the government’s approval of salary increments ranging from 25 percent to 35 percent for the remaining six consolidated salary structures, Ajaero pointed out that the last minimum wage of N30,000 expired on April 18.

Speaking on Channels Television, the NLC President explained the rationale behind the proposed N615,000 living wage. He outlined various components, including housing and accommodation, electricity, utilities, food, medical expenses, clothing, education, sanitation, and transportation, which collectively amount to the proposed figure.

Ajaero stressed that a living wage should be sufficient to sustain a worker and their family without plunging them into poverty or necessitating borrowing for basic needs. He highlighted the challenges faced by workers due to rising costs of living, particularly in areas such as transportation, which significantly impacts workers residing on the outskirts.
