No Sh*ck Here – NNPP Leader Yesufu Reveals Why US Lawmakers Are Going After Kwankwaso
According to Ireporter Online, Abubakar Yesufu, a chieftain of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), has described the proposed sanctions by United States lawmakers against former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso as unsurprising.
The move follows the introduction of the Nigeria Religious Freedom and Accountability Act of 2026 by US legislators, a bill aimed at promoting accountability for human rights abuses in Nigeria. The legislation includes potential sanctions targeting Fulani militias and Kwankwaso.
Speaking in an interview with Arise Television, Yesufu suggested that the lawmakers’ actions may be motivated by Kwankwaso’s significant political influence and popular support. He remarked that the developments were expected, noting Kwankwaso’s previous confrontations with American officials regarding Nigeria’s sovereignty and democratic processes.
Yesufu also highlighted Kwankwaso’s contributions to education and voter registration, noting that the former governor played a pivotal role in registering 10 million voters nationwide, including 8 million in Kano State alone. He revealed that a petition had been launched in response to the proposed sanctions, emphasizing that Kwankwaso’s background and track record should be taken into account before any conclusions are drawn.
