Northern Governors Pledge Minimum Wage Increases Above ₦70,000 (See List)

Governor Mohammed Bago of Niger State has confirmed an increase in the minimum wage to ₦80,000 for state workers, starting November 2024. This announcement followed extensive discussions with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).……CONTINUE READING 

Governor Bago is optimistic about sustaining the new wage, attributing the success to advancements in the state’s agricultural sector. Niger State now joins other states, including Lagos, Delta, Rivers, Ogun, Ondo, Gombe, Kogi, Enugu, and Kebbi, which have recently committed to a minimum wage exceeding ₦70,000, following President Bola Tinubu’s recent policy.

Northern Governors Committing to Above ₦70,000 Minimum Wage:

1. Muhammad Yahaya (Gombe State) – ₦71,500
   Gombe’s Governor Yahaya, on October 15, 2024, agreed with the NLC to set a ₦71,500 minimum wage.
2. Ahmed Ododo (Kogi State) – ₦72,500
   Governor Ododo implemented a ₦72,500 minimum wage, additionally suspending tax on this sum for one year.
3. Nasir Idris (Kebbi State) – ₦75,000
   Kebbi’s Governor Nasir Idris approved a ₦75,000 minimum wage on October 23, ensuring support for state civil servants.
4. Mohammed Bago (Niger State) – ₦80,000
   Governor Bago raised Niger’s minimum wage to ₦80,000, expressing confidence in its sustainability through agricultural growth.
