OAU to Honour Senator Adedayo Adeyeye with Prestigious Lifetime Leadership Award

Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Nigeria’s foremost academic institution, has announced plans to confer a Lifetime Leadership Achievement Award on Senator Adedayo Adeyeye, Chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority and former representative of Ekiti South Senatorial District.

The announcement was conveyed in an official letter dated May 6, 2025, jointly signed by the Dean of the Faculty of Administration, Professor Francis Fagbohun, and the Chairperson of the Faculty Week Planning Committee, Dr. Mary Salawu.

The award ceremony is scheduled to take place on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at the university’s complex in Ile-Ife.

According to the university, Senator Adeyeye was meticulously selected for the honour in recognition of his remarkable achievements in public service, political leadership, educational development, institutional governance, youth empowerment, and commitment to national cohesion.

The letter reads:
“The Faculty of Administration, Obafemi Awolowo University, is pleased to inform you that you have been carefully selected as the recipient of the Lifetime Leadership Achievement Award. This honour acknowledges your exemplary contributions and unwavering dedication to excellence in public service. Your work in political leadership, advocacy for democracy, national unity, and youth mentorship has made a significant impact, deserving of public celebration.”

In addition to the award, OAU has also invited Senator Adeyeye to deliver a keynote lecture during its second Faculty Week. Themed “Empowering the Next Generation through Structured Mentorship and Professional Engagement,” the event aims to foster interaction between current students and accomplished alumni.

Senator Adeyeye is expected to speak on the topic, “Mentorship: A Tool for Fostering Progressive Democracy.” The university described the lecture as a highlight of the Faculty Week, designed to inspire the next generation through shared professional experiences and mentorship.

It will be recalled that in July 2024, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed Senator Adeyeye as Chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority. A seasoned politician, Adeyeye also previously served as Nigeria’s Minister of State for Works.
