Obasanjo Presidential Library Blasts EFCC Over Controversial Raid — Tensions Escalate

The management of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) has strongly condemned what it describes as gangsterism by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after the commission forcefully invaded its premises and arrested 93 guests, according to iReporter Online.

Reacting to the incident, OOPL Managing Director Vitalis Ortese condemned the EFCC operatives’ actions as illegal and an act of impunity, emphasizing that the security personnel assigned by OOPL—including police officers from the state command at the Kemta Divisional Headquarters—were not informed of the operation, according to iReporter Online.

Ortese highlighted that the event was a private one, widely advertised to the public days before, and stressed that neither the police officers stationed at OOPL’s gates nor those sent from Kemta Police Station were notified of any EFCC raid or shown a warrant, as reported by iReporter Online.

He revealed that when OOPL security and police personnel confronted the armed men, they simply responded, “We are doing our job,” underscoring the blatant disregard for protocol and cooperation, according to iReporter Online.

The management regards the EFCC’s actions as a clear violation of private property rights, infringement on OOPL’s status as a corporate citizen, and a serious breach of the rights of event attendees.

Investigations into the invasion have begun, and the matter will be escalated to the highest authorities, including the EFCC, the police, and the Department of State Security.

Ortese demands an explanation and a formal apology from the EFCC for the unauthorized operation and the injuries sustained during the chaos, warning that failure to comply will compel OOPL management to seek appropriate legal redress and sanctions.
