According to Ireporter Online, Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has called on Nigerians and all levels of government to provide greater support to the Nigerian Armed Forces in recognition of their sacrifices in maintaining national unity.

The governor made the appeal on Thursday during the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day ceremony at the Museum Ground, Oba Ovonramwen Square, in Benin City, an annual event dedicated to honoring soldiers who lost their lives in service to the nation.

Okpebholo emphasized that the sacrifices of fallen soldiers should never be forgotten and prayed that their families find strength in their loss. He noted the importance of respecting both active and retired military personnel and urged those still in service to remain committed to defending the country.

Umar Sheriffat, Edo State Coordinator of the Military Widows Association, highlighted the need for sustained government support for widows of fallen soldiers, many of whom are left to care for children on their own. She called for official recognition and empowerment programs to help them become self-reliant.
