The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is still grappling with the fallout of its alleged governance failures during its 2018–2022 tenure, according to Governor Ademola Adeleke’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed.

Rasheed made the remarks in reaction to a recent statement issued by the APC to mark Governor Adeleke’s birthday. He argued that the party’s troubled legacy continues to undermine its credibility, citing its failure to deliver effective governance, as well as its poor treatment of civil servants and pensioners during its time in power.

“Since November 2022, when Governor Adeleke assumed office, Osun has experienced a significant turnaround,” Rasheed said. “Through his five-point agenda, the governor has made remarkable progress in areas like workers’ welfare, infrastructure, sports, healthcare, citizen empowerment, debt reduction, education, and the completion of previously abandoned projects.”

He further emphasized that Adeleke’s leadership has drawn both national and international acclaim.

“From late 2022 till date, the governor has received numerous unsolicited awards from respected local and global organizations, as well as prominent national newspapers. The Osun APC clearly finds this hard to stomach, which explains its campaign of lies and misinformation, even on the governor’s birthday,” Rasheed stated.

Reflecting on the APC’s rule, Rasheed labeled it “a monumental disaster,” pointing to Osun’s former poor performance in education rankings and its high debt profile—issues he said Adeleke has worked diligently to reverse.

“NECO recently ranked Osun seventh in the country, a dramatic rise from its previous 33rd place under the APC. If that’s not evidence of effective governance, what is?” he asked.

“Also, the Debt Management Office confirmed that Osun has reduced its debt stock by 40% under Governor Adeleke—a clear contrast to the APC’s mismanagement.”

Rasheed also claimed that Adeleke’s achievements have gained quiet approval from within APC ranks.

“A prominent APC leader from Ijeshaland recently acknowledged that Governor Adeleke’s performance is unprecedented in Osun’s history. That sentiment reflects the views of many silent APC members who quietly admire the governor’s leadership, despite the noise from frustrated opposition media teams,” he concluded.
