Osun Election: ‘No Ballot Papers, No Voting’ – Agents Protest Shortage At Polling Units
A mild controversy broke out in Ejigbo Local Government Area of Osun State after party agents demanded a recount of ballot papers supplied for the ongoing governorship election.
According to Ireporter Online, the agents alleged that the number of ballot papers available at the polling location was significantly lower than the 594 they were informed had been provided for the exercise.
A video from the scene showed the agents insisting that the ballot papers be counted before voting could commence. One of the agents questioned the number available, expressing doubt that they were up to the expected figure.
An INEC official at the location reportedly explained that the discrepancy resulted from an error during the counting process. The explanation, however, did not satisfy the party agents, who insisted on another count.
The agents warned that voting would not begin unless the ballot papers were recounted and the total matched the expected 594.
The development added to a series of incidents reported at different polling locations across Osun State as voters participated in the governorship election.
In another development, security personnel intervened at AUD Primary School, Atile, Ikire, in Irewole Local Government Area after tension reportedly arose over the activities of party agents around the voting area.
An Accord Party agent, Ajayi Ayodele, allegedly accused All Progressives Congress (APC) agents of monitoring voters while they cast their ballots. The allegation reportedly caused concern among some voters and led to the intervention of security operatives.
The intervention helped restore calm, after which voting continued at the polling unit.
