Osun Election: Security Operatives Storm Assembly Speaker’s Residence

The Imole Campaign Council (TICC) has raised concerns over the reported deployment of armed security personnel to the residence of the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, on Saturday morning.

In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi, the campaign council alleged that more than 10 black Hilux vehicles carrying security operatives arrived at the Speaker’s residence and surrounded the premises.

According to Ireporter Online, the council claimed that the residence was subsequently sealed, with people inside allegedly prevented from moving in or out. However, TICC acknowledged that it had not independently established the reason for the security presence or determined whether the deployment was for protection or part of official security operations.

The campaign council, which supports Governor Ademola Adeleke, called on the relevant security authorities to immediately explain the circumstances surrounding the deployment and clarify reports of restrictions on movement at the Speaker’s residence.

TICC said it attempted to contact the Commissioner of Police overseeing the election through his publicly available telephone number but received no response. It also claimed that attempts to reach the Deputy Inspector-General of Police responsible for the election were unsuccessful.

The council further alleged that the publicly provided telephone line for the Police Situation Room was switched off when it attempted to make contact.

The campaign council stressed that residents should be able to participate in the election without fear or intimidation, while urging security agencies to ensure that their operations strengthen public confidence in the electoral process.

It said, “On this Election Day, the people of Osun State deserve an atmosphere free from fear and intimidation. Security deployments must inspire confidence and protect the integrity of the electoral process.”

TICC further appealed to security authorities to provide prompt clarification and ensure that residents are allowed to move freely and cast their votes according to their choice without intimidation or interference.
