Osun Election: Uzodimma Replies Davido, Says ‘You’re My Son But I’m Not A Voter’

Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has responded to Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, over his call for a peaceful and transparent Osun State governorship election, stating that he is not a registered voter in the state.

According to Ireporter Online, Uzodimma said Davido remains his son while explaining that his involvement in the Osun election is based on his responsibility as a leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), not as an elector.

The governor also distanced himself from comments made by his aide, Ambrose Nwogwugwu, who had earlier criticised Davido’s remarks concerning the forthcoming election.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser on Media, Oguwike Nwachuku, Uzodimma said he did not authorise Nwogwugwu or any other person to respond to Davido on his behalf.

Davido had earlier appealed to the Imo State governor, whom he referred to as his “daddy from Imo State,” to support a peaceful electoral process in Osun ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

The singer, who is backing the re-election bid of his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, had urged political actors to allow residents of Osun to freely choose their preferred candidate.

Responding to the development, Uzodimma explained that he was participating in the election as Chairman of the APC Osun State Governorship Campaign Council and not as someone seeking to influence the choice of voters.

He said his responsibility was to mobilise support for the APC candidate, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, ahead of the poll.

The governor maintained that Davido’s concerns about a peaceful election were understandable but stressed that electoral decisions would ultimately be made by Osun voters.

Uzodimma also clarified that the statement issued by his aide, which described Davido’s comments as “emotional blackmail,” was a personal opinion and did not represent his official position.

He urged members of the public to disregard any interpretation suggesting that the comments reflected the stance of the APC campaign council.

The Imo governor reaffirmed his commitment to a peaceful, credible and fair electoral process, adding that political leaders have the right to campaign for candidates of their choice outside their home states.

Uzodimma said he maintained respect for Davido and the people of Osun State, while insisting that his role in the election remains within the framework of democratic participation.
