Panic in Abuja: Suspected Suicide Bomber Neutralized Near Nyanya Bypass

An explosion suspected to have been caused by a bomb killed one person and injured another in Abuja on Monday.

The blast occurred near the Mogadishu Barracks, a prominent military installation in the Federal Capital Territory.

According to an eyewitness — a military personnel who spoke to AIT on condition of anonymity — the individual believed to be a suicide bomber was killed by an explosive concealed in a rubber container.

The explosion, which happened in close proximity to the barracks, sparked immediate panic among residents and security operatives.

However, military sources on ground dismissed claims that the explosion was caused by an improvised explosive device (IED), suggesting instead that the blast may have been triggered by a phone-based mechanism.

As of the latest updates, a joint task force comprising the military, Department of State Services (DSS), police, and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) is at the scene, conducting investigations and managing the situation.

In a notable development, journalists were restricted from taking photographs or recording videos at the location, limiting the flow of visual information to the public.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a group of heavily armed kidnappers reportedly stormed the Grow Homes Estate in the Chikakore area of Kubwa, Abuja’s largest suburban community, in the early hours of Monday.

The invasion, which occurred between 12:00 a.m. and 1:30 a.m., lasted over an hour, during which several residents were reportedly held hostage.

One eyewitness claimed to have seen a man and a woman being abducted by the attackers. By morning, however, the woman was found within the estate, mysteriously released by the kidnappers under unclear circumstances.
