PDP Demands Akpabio’s Resignation Over Allegations Of Misconduct
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on Senate President Godswill Akpabio to step down to enable a fair and transparent investigation into allegations of s3xual harassment made against him by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central……READ MORE
The party stressed the importance of protecting women’s rights and condemned any form of discrimination, describing it as unconstitutional and unacceptable.
PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, expressed concern over the scandal, calling it a major embarrassment to the Senate. He noted that critical national matters were being ignored due to the controversy.
Ologunagba argued that Akpabio’s continued leadership during the investigation would compromise its credibility. “Since he is the one being accused, it is only right that he steps aside to allow an impartial investigation to take place. He cannot preside over a case that involves him,” he said.
He further urged the Senate to uphold its reputation by addressing the issue with urgency. “The Senate, as a respected institution, must act responsibly to prevent further embarrassment to the nation. There are more pressing matters that require the Senate’s attention, and this controversy should not be a distraction.”
The PDP spokesperson also criticized the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), attributing the crisis to deeper leadership failures within the party.
“The Senate should have already taken appropriate steps to resolve this matter. Akpabio has a duty—to himself, the country, and the Senate—to ensure a credible investigation. If he is committed to the truth, he should willingly step aside,” Ologunagba concluded.
