“All the candidates who have submitted their names will remain candidates until the elections are over,” Mr Okoye told The Gazette ahead of the 2023 elections.

Given that the elections are only eight weeks away, the INEC spokesperson stated that a political party does not have the authority to substitute any candidate.

“No political party can substitute any candidate,” Mr Okoye stressed, adding that “they will remain the candidates of the political party that nominated them.”

Governors Nyesom Wike, Seyi Makinde, Samuel Ortom, Okezie Ikpeazu, and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi comprise the G-5.
