A senior chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, has issued a stern warning that members who refuse to adhere to the party’s core principles and regulations will face expulsion.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, George disclosed that the PDP’s National Executive Council (NEC) is set to take decisive steps during its meeting later this month. He condemned what he described as the selfish conduct of some party members, accusing them of prioritizing personal ambitions over public service.

George stressed that the NEC is determined to restore discipline and realign the party with the vision of its founding fathers.

“As politicians, is it only about their personal gain? What about the impact? What is democracy if not the management of a nation’s resources for the benefit of the people? That’s clearly not what’s happening now,” George said.

“I expect that during our meeting on the 27th of this month, we will engage in frank, closed-door discussions. Those who cannot follow the party’s rules and values can be expelled. The NEC has the full authority to take such action. We must confront the truth and return to the ideals established by our party’s founders.”

The PDP has been grappling with internal divisions since the 2023 general elections, weakening its role as Nigeria’s primary opposition. The party has come under fire for failing to discipline members who continue to support the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) while maintaining PDP membership.

A notable example is former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, who recently reaffirmed his loyalty to the PDP, despite publicly backing President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
