Peter Obi Accused Of Bribery By Okonkwo, Claims Backed By Receipts

Okonkwo, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), made the claims during an interview on Channels Television, where he stated that he received information from a House of Representatives aspirant in Anambra State who reportedly raised concerns over irregularities and alleged financial inducements during the primaries.

He identified the alleged complainant as Obunike Ohaegbu, an aspirant for the Nnewi North and Nnewi South Federal Constituency seat, who he said sent an “SOS message” detailing what he described as manipulation and unexpected financial demands within the process.

According to Okonkwo, aspirants were initially informed that only expression of interest forms were required, with assurances that nomination fees would be paid only after candidates had emerged. However, he alleged that the process later changed, with aspirants reportedly being asked to pay additional sums.

He further alleged that House of Representatives aspirants were required to pay about ₦10 million, while senatorial aspirants were allegedly asked to pay ₦20 million before being considered for candidacy.

Okonkwo claimed that the development misled participants who believed they were undergoing a standard primary process, adding that some leaders within the party’s South-East structure were involved in the arrangement.

He also alleged that during the conduct of the primaries, names of preferred candidates had already been compiled in advance, claiming that Peter Obi was present at a hotel where such lists were being drawn up.

The ADC chieftain further stated that the aspirant provided him with receipts as evidence of payments made, although he did not specify whether the matter had been formally reported to any security or electoral authority.

As of the time of filing this report, neither Peter Obi nor the leadership of the NDC had issued an official response to the allegations.
