Police Arrest Suspect For Allegedly Impersonating JAMB Registrar
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, has arrested a suspect accused of impersonating its Registrar, Prof. Segun Aina, in an alleged attempt to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.
According to Ireporter Online, the suspect was arrested in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, following an intelligence-led investigation into the alleged fraudulent use of the Registrar’s identity on social media and other platforms.
JAMB said the investigation uncovered activities in which the suspect allegedly used Prof. Aina’s name and identity to target members of the public for fraudulent purposes.
The examination body also clarified that the Registrar has not authorised anyone to solicit money, secure contracts, facilitate admissions or examinations, or demand gratification on his behalf.
JAMB urged members of the public to exercise caution and verify any request purportedly made in the Registrar’s name before taking action.
The board specifically warned Nigerians against making payments in response to unsolicited requests and advised anyone who encounters suspicious activities to report them through the appropriate channels.
JAMB said the arrest should serve as a warning to individuals who attempt to exploit the identities of its officials to deceive or defraud members of the public.
“Members of the public are advised to verify before trusting, never make payments based on unsolicited requests, and report suspicious activity through the appropriate channels. There is no safe haven for fraudsters,” the board said.
The development highlights the need for members of the public to verify the authenticity of financial, admission, examination or contract-related requests allegedly made on behalf of JAMB officials.
