Police Dismiss Bomb Threat Rumours In Jos, Assure Plateau Residents Of Safety

The Plateau State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has debunked widespread rumours about an alleged bomb plot targeting the University of Jos (UniJos) and other locations within Jos metropolis, describing the reports as unverified and lacking credible basis.

Naija News reports that the speculation gained traction on social media after a memo, reportedly from the university’s security unit and signed by its Acting Chief Security Officer, began circulating online. The memo, dated July 4, 2025, raised concerns over a possible bomb attack within the university community.

Responding swiftly, the Plateau State Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Adesina, dismissed the rumours, assuring residents that no such threat had been confirmed.

While calling the circulating reports unsubstantiated, CP Adesina stressed that the command was treating the matter with utmost seriousness and had already put several proactive measures in place to safeguard the public.

As part of these efforts, he directed the immediate deployment of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit, popularly known as the Anti-Bomb Squad, to conduct detailed sweeps of the UniJos campus and other sensitive locations across Jos.

Additionally, bomb experts, intelligence operatives from the State Intelligence Department (SID), and specialised patrol units have been strategically stationed at key areas considered potential flashpoints to strengthen security.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Alfred Alabo, the Police urged residents to remain calm but vigilant, and to report any suspicious movements, individuals, or activities to the nearest Police station or security agency.

CP Adesina reaffirmed the Police Command’s commitment to community policing and highlighted the crucial role timely and accurate information from members of the public plays in enhancing security.

“We urge the peace-loving people of Plateau to go about their lawful activities without fear. While the threat remains unverified, our officers are fully mobilised to respond to any situation. Your safety is our top priority,” he assured.

The Police also cautioned against spreading unverified information capable of causing panic or disturbing social harmony, reiterating their dedication to maintaining peace and order across the state.
