Police Exonerate Former Senator Abbo Over Rape Allegation

According to Ireporter Online, the exoneration followed a detailed investigation ordered by the Inspector-General of Police after a petition was submitted by Mrs Zainab Mohammed, who alleged that the former lawmaker raped Khadija Mohammed at his residence in Katampe Extension, Abuja, on June 29, 2025.

The IGP directed a comprehensive probe involving multiple police formations, including the Force Criminal Investigation Department Gender Unit, the National Cybercrime Centre, the Intelligence Tactical Unit, and the Medical Unit. The findings of the investigation were contained in a report dated October 23, 2025, and endorsed by a Deputy Commissioner of Police at the FCID.

The report stated that critical elements required to substantiate a charge of rape were not established. Investigators noted that the considerable delay between the alleged incident and its formal reporting significantly weakened the case. While the incident was said to have occurred on June 29, 2025, it was not officially reported until September 15, 2025.

Police findings further revealed that a search of the alleged crime scene conducted on October 3, 2025, produced no incriminating evidence, a situation attributed to the prolonged time gap before the investigation commenced.

Medical reports also played a key role in the outcome. Records from Deda Hospital showed that the alleged victim was examined on July 10, 2025, with a medical report dated July 11 indicating that her hymen was intact and that she was still a virgin about 11 days after the alleged incident. Laboratory tests for HIV, Hepatitis B and C, and syphilis were all negative.

Investigators disclosed that the complainant claimed to have stored crucial evidence on a mobile phone, but the device was never submitted for forensic examination. Further checks revealed that the phone had been flashed, rendering data recovery impossible.

Witness accounts were also considered. Security personnel who reportedly opened the door for visitors on the day in question stated that they did not witness any act of rape. Police noted that only three individuals—the security personnel, Nafisa Mohammed, and Senator Abbo—were present at the residence at the time, and all denied that any sexual assault occurred.

The report additionally revealed that Senator Abbo had earlier lodged a complaint at the Dawaki Police Station on July 16, 2025, accusing Khadija Mohammed and Nafisa Mohammed Chigli of stealing his wife’s gold jewellery.

Based on medical, forensic, and testimonial evidence, the police concluded that no incriminating proof was found to support the allegation.

When reached for comments, the former senator declined to speak extensively on the matter, stating only that he believes divine justice will ultimately prevail.
