Police Once Again Halt Enforcement Of Vehicle Tinted Glass Permit

According to Ireporter Online, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has once again suspended the nationwide enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy. The policy, originally scheduled to take effect today, has been halted pending the resolution of a pending court case.

The NPF had previously announced on December 15, 2025, that the enforcement of the tinted glass permit would resume nationwide as part of measures to enhance public safety and security. However, in a statement released yesterday in Abuja, Force Public Relations Officer Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed that an interim court order issued on December 17 directed the police to suspend the policy until the court reaches a decision or the order is lifted.

Hundeyin stated that the police have filed preliminary objections and requested the vacation of the interim order. The court has adjourned the matter to January 20, 2026, for further proceedings.

The Nigeria Police Force emphasized that in strict compliance with the court order and in line with constitutional provisions, enforcement of the policy remains on hold. Inspector-General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to the rule of law while ensuring the protection of lives and property.

The IGP assured the public that the police would continue to implement lawful and intelligence-driven strategies to address security challenges. Further updates and guidance regarding the tinted glass permit policy will be communicated following the court’s determination, in the interest of public order and national security.
