“Prepare In Peace”: Abiodun Rolls Out Bold Security Strategy To Shield Ogun From Threats

According to Ireporter Online, Governor Dapo Abiodun on Monday held a high-level security meeting with key officials to review and enhance the security architecture of Ogun State. The deliberation came in the wake of recent concerns, including reports of an unusual movement of Fulani herdsmen around the Ajebo and Mile 6 corridors of Abeokuta, as well as unverified claims of bandit activity in Ijebu-Ode and within the Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun.

Governor Abiodun, in a statement shared on X, noted that although such meetings are routine, they remain essential in preserving the state’s standing as one of the most stable and peaceful in the country. He reiterated the need for vigilance, stressing that “the best time to prepare for war is during peace.”

The governor unveiled several strategic actions aimed at reinforcing security across Ogun. These include tackling illegal mining operations, probing irregular settlement patterns by non-indigenes in Ajebo, and establishing a Forward Operating Base in Ilara, a pivotal border community in Yewa North, to strengthen border surveillance. He further disclosed that activities of scavengers would be closely monitored to curb potential criminal infiltration.

Additional measures outlined include compulsory documentation of all foreign nationals, the dismantling and government takeover of the ZAGA settlement to forestall unlawful activity, sanctions against landlords aiding criminal hideouts, and continuous engagement with non-indigene groups to deepen cooperation on security issues.

Governor Abiodun also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for efforts to stabilize the economy and his support in the rescue operations of kidnap victims in Niger and Kwara States. He emphasized that Ogun’s status as Nigeria’s industrial capital and a critical gateway region demands proactive safeguards to maintain peace and support economic growth.

He affirmed the state’s resolve to remain vigilant, saying, “We must continue to be proactive in ensuring that we sustain our position as one of the more peaceful states in Nigeria.” The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment by the government to uphold the safety, security, and tranquility of all residents.
