The Nigerian Presidency has dismissed as false a viral post claiming that former US President Donald Trump criticised President Bola Tinubu over recent attacks in Borno State. According to Ireporter Online, a screenshot circulating on social media alleged that Trump condemned Tinubu’s handling of security and questioned his state visit to the United Kingdom amid the violence.

The purported tweet detailed large-scale attacks in Maiduguri, including suicide bombings at a hospital, a major market, and the post office, claiming many lives. It also falsely suggested that President Tinubu was neglecting the crisis while attending official functions in the UK and called on Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to order him back to Nigeria immediately.

The Presidential Media Office swiftly denied the authenticity of the post, confirming that the tweet had been doctored. The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, also took to X on Tuesday to categorically label the circulating message as “Fake!!!”. Checks by Ireporter Online confirmed that no such statement appeared on Trump’s official accounts or any affiliated channels.
