“Relief Is Coming!” – IGP Vows Better Welfare For Forgotten Police Veterans

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to enhancing the welfare of retired officers, assuring that tangible efforts are underway to address their concerns.

According to iReporter Online, the IGP made this known during a crucial meeting with aggrieved retirees who recently staged a protest over poor pensions, deteriorating living conditions, and unmet entitlements.

The retirees had accused the police leadership of neglecting their welfare despite being their former comrades. However, according to iReporter Online, Egbetokun dismissed the allegations, stressing that his administration is not only empathetic but also actively engaging stakeholders to improve the living standards of all retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).

“We all feel your pain. We empathise with you because many of us are approaching retirement too. I have held several meetings at the highest level to ensure your plight is addressed,” the IGP stated, revealing that the matter had recently been discussed in a meeting with National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.

According to iReporter Online, Egbetokun emphasized that the condition of retired police officers is a top priority for the current police leadership and assured them that efforts are already yielding positive responses. He, however, cautioned retirees against falling prey to elements bent on weaponizing their grievances against the Force.

“Don’t allow enemies of the police to exploit your pain. Be wary of those who pretend to be your allies. Not everyone who claims to speak for you truly has your interest at heart,” he warned.
