Rema Reveals He Smokes And Prays Before Every Stage Show

According to industry sources, Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Rema has disclosed the rituals he undertakes before going on stage, which include drinking alcohol, smoking cigarettes, and engaging in prayer.

Speaking with Dazed during Milan Fashion Week, where he modeled for Diesel, Rema explained that these practices help him mentally and physically prepare for his performances. “A little Tequila, a little cigarette, pray, tap in with the team and make sure everything is on cue,” he said, stressing the significance of focus and readiness ahead of shows.

The artist noted that performing live is more demanding than walking the runway, as it requires strong breath control and active crowd engagement. “Performing has a lot to do with your breath work, and you have to keep the crowd going,” he remarked.

Rema also revealed that he has recently drawn inspiration from Sudanese cultural live music, which has influenced his creative approach. Despite this, he candidly admitted that smoking cigarettes remains his most persistent vice.
