League leaders Remo Stars are preparing for a crucial showdown against relegation-threatened Niger Tornadoes at 5:30 p.m. today, April 27, at the Otunba Dipo Dina Stadium in Ikenne.

With their eyes firmly set on clinching their maiden NPFL title, Remo Stars are highly motivated to claim all three points in what promises to be a decisive encounter.

Heading into matchday 35, Remo Stars find themselves in a commanding position, benefitting from a major slip-up by closest rivals Rivers United, who suffered a 2-0 defeat to Kano Pillars on Friday.

That result opened up a seven-point lead for Remo Stars at the summit, putting them on the brink of achieving the league triumph they narrowly missed in the last two seasons.

Despite the favorable situation, head coach Daniel Ogunmodede remains grounded. Speaking with Punch, Ogunmodede stressed the importance of staying focused, noting that nothing is guaranteed yet.

“I’m not feeling anything,” Ogunmodede said. “We won’t celebrate until it’s official. Our opponents are battling their own survival fight, and we must not lose focus.”

In defense, Remo Stars are strengthened by the experience of Fabian Nworie and Ifeanyi Anaemena, both former NPFL champions with Rivers United.

Echoing their coach’s caution, Nworie said, “Everyone must stay focused until the season is over,” while Anaemena added, “This is the time we need to give our absolute best in every match to reach our goal.”

Meanwhile, Niger Tornadoes are in a precarious 14th place with 44 points, just two points clear of the relegation zone.

A defeat today would not only crown Remo Stars as champions but also endanger Tornadoes’ survival hopes, as teams below are eager to capitalize.

With only three games left — against Abia Warriors, Sunshine Stars, and Kano Pillars — the stakes are sky-high for both sides.

If Remo Stars secure a win today, they will extend their lead to an unassailable ten points, making it mathematically impossible for Rivers United to catch them. However, anything short of victory could breathe life back into Rivers United’s faint title hopes, with a draw reducing the gap to eight points and keeping the title race alive.
