The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has thrown his weight behind Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State, stating that the governor was absolutely right to demand prior notice from Peter Obi before visiting the state.

According to iReporter Online, Wike made this declaration during the official launch of modern mass transit buses in Benin City, where he emphasized the importance of protocol and security when high-profile figures travel across state lines.

Wike recounted his own experience as Governor of Rivers State, revealing that during Peter Obi’s presidential campaign, Obi had notified him ahead of his visit. In return, Wike provided vehicles and logistical support to ensure the former Labour Party presidential candidate’s safety.

“According to iReporter Online, when Peter Obi was coming to Rivers State, he informed me. I made logistics and vehicles available because as a presidential candidate, if anything had happened to him in my state, I would have been held responsible,” Wike stated.

He further dismissed allegations that Governor Okpebholo had threatened Obi, clarifying instead that the governor was merely acting in line with protocol and security best practices.

According to iReporter Online, Wike firmly endorsed the Edo governor’s stance, saying: “Governor Okpebholo, the statement you made is correct. Obi must inform you before coming to Edo State.”
