Veteran journalist and former presidential spokesman, Reuben Abati, has opened up about his marital life, sharing insights into the dynamics of respect and equality in his household. According to Ireporter Online, Abati spoke during a recent interview with media personality Morayo Afolabi-Brown.

During the conversation, he explained that age does not automatically confer authority in his home. He noted that while he is the older partner, there are times when his wife interacts with him freely, challenging traditional expectations of seniority.

Abati revealed that his wife insists on being treated as an equal partner and has refused to conform to certain cultural practices, including kneeling as a sign of submission. He recounted that she once told him that if he sought a spouse who strictly followed village traditions, he should return to his hometown.

He said: “As an older person, sometimes I think my wife gets too familiar and I said no, I am older than you, and she said no, you don’t want me to talk. She said she cannot kneel down; if I am looking for a wife, I should go back to my village.”
