According to Daily Trust, The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) shifted its state congresses earlier scheduled for October 2 to 16, 2021, to enable it to mend fences in some states.

Multiple sources told Daily Trust that the two weeks’ postponement was to give room for the Senator Abdullahi Adamu-led National Reconciliation Committee which was inaugurated on September 14, 2021, to resolve the life-threatening crisis in some states to avoid cancellation of election results.

A top party leader who made the disclosure to the source in a telephone interview said, “It is not always easy for a political party to admit publicly that the reason for not doing an event on an earlier scheduled date was because of internal crisis. No party will come out to say that because that has its own negative implications.

“I think the main reason is to see how the internal tension and crisis in some states can be resolved. A reconciliation committee was set up recently.

Another source said the party was confused and jittery that there would be a mass exodus of its aggrieved members after the congresses ahead of the 2023 elections, hence the postponement.

“They (APC leaders) are confused. This third force that is formed now, is going to take 60 per cent of the membership of APC. It is going to take me away from APC too.

“So they have seen what is happening and they postponed the state congress to see if they can mend fences. But the party is polarised already,” he said.

Another source said the postponement was part of the ruling party’s strategies to delay its convention and first witness how the PDP would scheme its October 31 convention ahead of the 2023 general polls.
