The Kano State Government commemorated the first anniversary of Muhammad Sanusi II’s reinstatement as the 16th Emir of Kano with special prayers, reaffirming its unwavering commitment to safeguarding and empowering traditional institutions across the state.

In a statement issued to mark the occasion, Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo reiterated the administration’s resolve to reinforce the role of traditional institutions in promoting peace, stability, and social harmony.

It will be recalled that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf reinstated Emir Sanusi II on May 24, 2024, following the signing of the Kano Emirates Council (Repeal) Bill 2024 into law a day earlier. The legislation led to the dissolution of the emirates of Kano, Bichi, Karaye, and Rano, reflecting the administration’s decisive approach to traditional leadership.

Speaking during the special prayer session in honour of the Emir, Deputy Governor Gwarzo highlighted the essential role traditional rulers play in preserving cultural identity and uniting the populace.

The solemn prayer event, led by respected Islamic clerics and attended by prominent stakeholders, offered a moment of gratitude and renewed optimism for Kano’s future. It also emphasized Emir Sanusi’s pivotal role in promoting justice, equity, and unity within the state.

Deputy Governor Gwarzo also praised the Emir’s distinguished leadership, his steadfast pursuit of justice, and his dedication to the welfare of the people of Kano.
